Tuesday 13th October – Windsurf *** River Orwell at Levington – sunny periods with a brief spell of rain.

Another fresh breeze forecast for today, this time starting SW before turning W with a band of rain moving through. Once again I was tempted by The Manor but after a quick visit I decided against it so after taking a few weather pics as the sun was out I drove over to Levington Marina arriving around 9.30 with the tide still fairly low and it had clouded over with the wind moderate at best, I did set up my foil board but with the wind light I didn’t set up a sail, I was tempted to rig my 6.5 which I am glad I didn’t and went with my 5.75. I was getting ready to go out when several wingers and a fin sailor arrives as did the rain! So after a spell in the van waiting for it to pass I headed out for a couple of hours, funny session at times way under powered then some really strong gusts came through and I was way overpowered:( The wind probably started WSW not my favourite direction as pretty gusty making the rover really lumpy but at least the sun had made a welcome return as I beat up past Pin Mill, I did have some nice flying runs when not too overpowered, then turning in front of the entrance to Nacton Shores I had some interesting broad runs back which really made my back leg sing! By this point the wind was west and gusting to 30 knots making for an interesting spell as I had one long run down to Felixstowe docks. If only I had the right size sail as it would have been brilliant as the water was nice and smooth, I did crash half way only to discover a coaster was heading up river to Ipswich, I quickly uphauled and sailed to the side. By this time I was getting knackered after sailing 30 miles yesterday so sailed back to the corner and after a couple of beats in some really lumpy water I was back to my van, I was not best pleased as there was a nice big scratch down the side of the van where some humpty had caught it with their foil:( Time to pack up, shower and head for home after a pretty full-on couple of days!
